New inclusive playground goes up on Guadalupe Street

Construction is underway for the inclusive playground at Guadalupe Park at 700 Guadalupe St.

The playground will feature wheelchair-accessible ramps, a shade structure and an artificial turf fall zone.

“The existing playground is 30 years old and needs to be replaced. An inclusive playground is designed to be accessible and welcoming for children of every ability, including those with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities,” said Ashlea Boyle, former director of Parks and Recreation when the project was initially announced in August 2024.

This project is financed through a sales tax revenue bond issued by the city of Kerrville Economic Improvement Corporation and approved by the Kerrville City Council.

Part of this bond has been allocated for general park improvements, including playground upgrades.

“It’s important to note that the bond payments will be funded through sales tax revenue, not property taxes,” said a spokesperson from the Kerrville Parks and Recreation Department.
